Motor and E-Drive Applications

Electrical drive and control

| App Introduction

The motor is the driving heart of an electric vehicle. During high-efficiency operation, it generates significant heat and requires continuous cooling to maintain stable output power and efficiency. Temperature sensors are essential for real-time monitoring of the motor and power components, ensuring all units operate optimally under stable conditions. The DC bus side of the motor drive controller inverter is equipped with large-capacity capacitors in parallel to stabilize voltage and filter harmonics. A high inrush current occurs during power-on, requiring power NTC thermistors to protect power devices (e.g., IGBT, SiC MOSFET) from surge current impacts.

Function: To protect motors and power electronic devices from overheating, demagnetization, or burnout, while intelligently increasing output power within the allowable temperature range (e.g. "ejection mode" may sometimes be limited by temperature).

SENSOR_CNSE Series / SENSOR_CNSA Series

Epoxy-Encapsulated Structure

Electrical Terminal Structure

Inverter/Power Electronics (IGBT/SiC Modules) :

The inverter converts DC power from the battery into AC power to drive the motor. This process involves high energy loss and significant heat generation. Temperature sensors (sometimes integrated directly into power modules) monitor the temperature of IGBT or SiC chips to prevent overheating damage. Epoxy-encapsulated NTSA or NTSA sensors are mounted onto the heat sink of power devices.

SENSOR_CNSF Series

Clip+Metal Probe Structure

Motor Cooling Jacket : Monitors the temperature of coolant flowing through the motor housing in liquid-cooling systems.

PTFE-Type

Round/Flat Head and Clip Series

Motor Windings/Stator :

Sensors embedded or attached to windings directly monitor the temperature of core heating components, providing the most critical temperature data for the motor.

Over-current protection

Power type NTC/PTC thermistor

The DC bus side of the motor drive controller inverter uses large capacitors for voltage stabilization and harmonic filtering. During startup, high inrush currents require power NTC thermistors to protect components like IGBTs or SiC MOSFETs from surge damage.
